Durham County Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation of poems contained in the Poetry Out Loud online anthology. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure that starts at the classroom level. Winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals. http://www.poetryoutloud.org/about

Each school is responsible for organizing and conducting their own classroom and school competitions.

The Durham County Poetry Out Loud coordinators work with other schools in the county to plan and conduct the Durham County Poetry Out Loud competition. Voyager Academy participates in the Durham County Poetry Out Loud Competition coordinated by the Durham Public Schools Poetry Out Loud Coordinators.
